Competitive High School Writing

We read the most profound works of literature, understand them through six dimensions, and teach students to write with their own voice and style — the writing that Honors, AP/IB, and selective colleges reward.

Our framework

The CAAP 6D Essay Architecture™

A structured method for deep reading and intentional writing. Every serious essay exists in two realities — what is built on the page, and why it was built at all. Our six dimensions train students to see both, and give them a repeatable architecture for their own writing.

Domain I · Internal Architecture — how the essay is built (craft)

1 · Structure

How is it built?

Order of ideas, paragraph development, logical progression, flow and transitions. Key question: why are the ideas arranged this way? The skeleton of the essay.

2 · Style

How does it sound?

Tone, emotional distance, rhythm and pacing, attitude toward the subject. Key question: what voice is the author using — and why? The presence of the author on the page.

3 · Language

How precisely is it engineered?

Word choice, clarity and precision, density of ideas, concrete vs. abstract. Key question: are the ideas expressed with accuracy and control? The material meaning is built from.

Domain II · External Architecture — why the essay exists (intent)

4 · Purpose

Why, and for whom?

Intended audience, the author's goals, the desired effect on the reader. Key question: what is the writer trying to accomplish? The direction of the essay.

5 · Context

Why at this time?

Historical background, cultural and political environment, the author's life circumstances. Key question: what pressures or events shaped this writing? Situates the essay in history.

6 · Relevance

Why does it still matter?

Modern parallels, personal connections, continuing social impact. Key question: why should we care today? Bridges past and present.
